You don’t need to know everything about birth to make a real difference.

When someone you love is preparing to give birth, it’s natural to want to support her.

But when labour begins, knowing how to help can feel a little less obvious.

What do you say when things become intense?
How can you help her feel calm and safe?
When should you step forward  - and when might just  being there be enough?

The Birth Companion has been created for partners, family members and friends who want to feel more confident supporting someone through labour and birth.

Drawing on my years as a midwife, I’ll gently guide you through what labour can look and feel like, the practical things that may help, and the small, often overlooked ways your presence can make a real difference.

You’ll explore how to create a supportive birth space, offer comfort and reassurance, communicate with the maternity team, support her choices and stay alongside her when birth takes an unexpected turn.

And perhaps most importantly, you’ll discover that being a wonderful birth companion isn’t about having all the answers or knowing exactly what to do.

It’s about being present, paying attention and helping her feel heard, supported and never alone in the experience.

Inside The Birth Companion

The programme takes you gently through the journey from preparing for labour to the early days after birth, including:

Becoming Her Safe Place  - understanding why your presence matters and what truly supportive care can look like.

The Rhythm of Labour  -  making sense of the different stages of labour and what she may need from you as things change.

Preparing Together  -  thinking about the environment, comfort, communication and the unexpected before labour begins.

Emotional & Practical Support  -  reassurance, touch, movement, protecting her space and those little things that can make an enormous difference.

Supporting Her Choices  -  helping her ask questions, understand her options and remain at the heart of decisions about her care.

The Days That Follow  - continuing that support as she recovers, establishes feeding and begins to find her feet as a new Mother.

You'll also find Birth Room Moments throughout  -  short, practical explorations of things such as grounding, coming back to the breath, being present and finding your voice . . . all designed to help turn ideas into something you can actually use when you're beside her.

Created by a midwife . . .  for the people standing beside her

I’m Annie, a former midwife, and throughout my years of supporting women and families I saw again and again that birth support doesn't have to be complicated to matter.

A calm voice.
A familiar hand.
Someone who notices.
Someone who listens.
Someone who remembers what matters to her when she is deeply absorbed in the work of giving birth.

You don't need to become an expert in birth - you just need to know how to be there for her.

The Birth Companion is designed to help you do exactly that.
